Long Range Hunter Class

We hosted a long range hunter class Saturday at our long range near Crandall, TX.  We had two shooters that were getting ready to go on a antelope hunt next month.

We started out by making sure their rifles were set up correctly.  While this was taking place Donna said that she heard some pigs near by.  We stopped class, and observed about 25 pigs at a small water hole 165 yards from our platform.  The student had not zeroed their rifles yet, so I grabbed my LaRue OBR and rested the bi-pod on the hand rail.  I found an opening in the tree canopy where a 50 pound porker was standing.  I held the reticle as steady as I could in a suported standing position and squeezed the trigger.  The pig dropped and the rest of the hogs ran and disappeared into the johnson grass.    I could not of asked for a better situation to demonstrate field hunting conditions.

After the excitement was over we got back to the business at hand.  The rifles were set up and it was time to zero.  It did not take us long to have the guns zeroed and chronographed.  Once we had the shooters velocities, we input that data as well as the current atmospheric conditions into Shooter balistic application and then began engaging steel targets out to 500 yards.

Overall it was a great day at the range with some talented shooters.  To see all of the photos from this class visit our gallery.
