FAQs

Q?

Should I get a first focal plane optic or a second focal plane optic?

A.

It depends on your mission and or personal preference.  In a FFP optic, as you increase the magnification, the reticle gets larger.  In a SFP optic, the reticle stays the same size as you increase the magnification of the optic.  In a FFP optic, your reticle will work for ranging and holds on any power.  In a SFP optic, your reticle will only work for ranging and holds on a specific power set by the manufacturer.  I prefer a FFP reticle, but I have both types of optics, FFP and SFP.

Q?

I really do not feel comfortable taking a class with other students. Do you do private lessons?

A.

Yes, we do private lessons.  Weekend slots are rare, but we have a lot of weekday availability.  Give us a call and let us know what you are interested in, and we can get it scheduled.

Q?

I do not see the course I want to take listed on your training schedule, what do I need to do?

A.

If you do not see the course listed on our schedule that you want to take, let us know and we will do our best to get one scheduled.  We schedule our courses that are the most popular first and then we go from there.

Q?

What optic do you recommend?

A.

Our optic of choice is the Leupold Mark 5, with the Tremor 3 reticle.  Other optics that we have utilized and would recommend as a secondary choice would be Nightforce and Steiner.  We recommend a mil/mil optic over a MOA/MOA.

Q?

Can a civilian attend your basic and intermediate sniper courses?

A.

No.  These courses are designed specifically for law enforcement and military.  All of the fundamentals of marksmanship and weapons operations are taught in our precision rifle courses.  The only content left out of our precision rifle courses is the content that is designed specifically for law enforcement.

Q?

What type of ammunition should I shoot in the Precision Rifle Courses.

A.

You will want to shoot match ammunition.  If you are shooting a .308 we recommend the 175 grain or 168 grain match ammunition.  If you are shooting 6.5 Creedmoor, we recommend the 140 grain match ammunition. Manufacturers such as Winchester, Federal, Hornady, or Black Hills should make a match round for the caliber that you are shooting.

Q?

Do you sell ammunition for your classes?

A.

No.  We do not currently sell ammunition for our classes.  That may change in the future.

Q?

Can I use a Mil reticle or a MOA reticle in your percision rifle classes?

A.

Yes.  You need some type of reticle that will allow for holds on wind and elevation.  Mil and MOA both will work for the classes.  We prefer Mil based reticles.
