Precision Rifle Training Cold Range Day

Today I needed to do a little work at our range so we decided to do a little precision rifle training while we were there.  It was 32 degrees when we got to the range this morning and it warmed up to a blistering 39 degrees before we were done.  The wind was blowing at a constant 11 MPH.

My son just built a 6.5 Grendel upper for his AR-15 and I just installed a new SAS can on my 6.8 so we needed to zero them and get some data.

My 6.8 SPC II set up is a 12 inch Noveske barrel with a 7 inch SAS Reaper can topped off with a Steiner 1-4x24M optic with a 7.62 reticle.   After a few rounds I had the gun zeroed and then ran the steel targets out to 500 yards.  This set up is my go to rifle for daily use around the house and the ranch.  The rifle/optic set up is very light weight.  The Steiner glass is clear and the reticle allows you to hold for elevation if you do not have time to dial.  This optic is quickly becoming my favorite optic in the Steiner line up.

Once I had my data gathered for my 6.8, it was time to switch guns and shoot my .300 Win. Mag at some distance.  This rifle set up is a Remington 700 Sendero with the barrel cut to 22 inches.  I have a Thunderbeast can on the end to reduce recoil and noise.  The glass is a Steiner T5Xi 5-25×56.  This is an extremely clear optic that allows you to zoom in on your target at distance.  I used this set up to take my Texas Nilgia last summer.

I confirmed my zero, and then ran the steel out to 800 yards.  Once I had the data recorded it was time to put up the gear and start on the work that needed to be done on the range.
